BART external website hacked by anonymous protesters | #OpBART #anonymousIRC

An anonymous hacker group's threat to shut down the BART website did not happen at the promised hour Sunday, but the group hacked into an external BART website that has more than 50,000 email subscribers and posted its logo on the home page.

Transit officials said they are seeking to close down the MyBart website, which is run by an external vendor, and inform all the members that some of their personal information might have been compromised. The anti-BART hackers, angered at the agency's tactics to curtail previous protests, have already posted the names, street addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of thousands of Bay Area residents.

Anonymous' message regarding the BART protest

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE USA:
The past year has brought about some substantial awareness through some unfortunate events that have occurred throughout our world.  From internet censorship to the unnecessary violence inflicted upon unarmed civilans, we've all seen what can happen once a portion of us are gagged.
In Egypt and Tunisia, we saw people struggling to make their voices heard.  We have seen companies such as Telecomix delve into the nastiness of political corruption in an attempt to free those censored individuals from their prisons of silence.  We seen social media such as FaceBook and twitter explode with users from around the world speaking out against censorship.

Anonymous Vigorously Calls For Rescheduled Protests | #OpBart #cyberwar #anonymous

San Francisco-based Anons are urging anyone interested to participate in rescheduled, peaceful protests to take place at 5:00 P.M. (local time) on Monday at the Civic Center Bay Area Rapid Station (BART). Anons and many other groups are angered over the fact that BART authorities actually turned off its cell service in a "totalitarian display" to prevent planned protests by more than 100 people on Thursday by severing off communications.

Protests were previously focused on BART's recent shooting of Charles Hill and the 2009 shooting of Oscar Grant III, the latter who was handcuffed and held down on the ground with a knee on his neck then "executed" by a BART police officer with a gun.

(Videos below; presented in court as direct evidence; taken by Tommy Cross).

The officer in question (Johannes Mehserle) only received 2 years in jail for involuntary manslaughter while his peers (who one of them shouted racial slurs at Oscar Grant III) received no punishments.

Hacker group threatens cyberwar against BART | #anonymousIRC #anonyOps

An international group of hackers threatened Saturday to wage a cyberwar against BART in retaliation for the agency's decision to cut cell phone service to prevent a separate protest last week.

The activist group, known as Anonymous, also called for a nonviolent protest Monday evening at BART's Civic Center Station.

Members of the Anonymous group have claimed responsibility for disrupting Tunisian and Libyan government websites to coincide with street protests.

Outsourcing the Drug War | #cartels #specops #cbp

According to a recent New York Times story, the U.S. government is stepping up its assistance to Mexico's security forces in the battle against drug cartels. The article described a growing presence of private security contractors from the United States, along with a few CIA operatives, at some Mexican federal police and army bases. Many of the contractors are retired members of U.S. military special operations forces and the Drug Enforcement Administration. According to the article, the contractors are providing specialized training to a few selected units in the federal police and other security forces. Even more important, the contractors and CIA officers are establishing intelligence analysis centers alongside Mexican command posts.

Mexican Drug War Spreading to the Web | #cyberwar #socialmedia #cartels

The Mexican drug war that has taken thousands of lives over the past four years isn't just on the other side of the border.

It's now online.

Cartels are using Facebook and Twitter to find out information on potential victims and to track them down.

"They use them as intelligence sources, I suppose, to gather information on people,"
said Dr. Tony Payan, associate professor of political science at the University of Texas-El Paso.
