Are your online medical records safe from #hackers?

Healthcare companies around the world are increasingly investing in clinical information systems (or EMR). In time, these systems have evolved and further discoveries are being made every single day. Vendors are progressively migrating to a web based or online EMR system. These days, for as little as $500/month some vendors provide a full featured EMR system in physician offices, offering highly developed features such as charting, drug interactions, etc.

While a few physician offices (and other provider groups) have bought into this (partially because they need significantly lower investment than desktop based EMR software), there is still a lot of doubt and uncertainty regarding this. As is the case with any other new technologies, fresh questions are directed at the security of data on EMR systems as well. This is augmented further due to sensitive patient data and, payment information prevalent in such systems.
