BART president: Mobile hotspots can circumvent shutdown | #OpBART #AnonyOps #AnonymousIRC

During this week's BART cyberdrama, one of the big questions was whether the agency would again shut down cell service in downtown underground BART stations in an effort to quell protests.

As it turns out, the agency didn't -- but for reasons that may not fully make sense.

Bob Franklin, the president of BART's board of directors, said Tuesday that one of the reasons why BART did not shut down underground cellular and WiFi service a day earlier was because of "mobile hot spots."

"I don't think it's necessary tonight. People will circumvent it," Franklin said in an interview with The Chronicle. "They can bring mobile hot spots."
